Built for two people

A professional technician gets the procedure, not the lecture. The steps stay short, and a step that can hurt you still names the equipment, the training and the risk.

An owner in the driveway, who may never have taken a wheel off, gets more of the why and the how at every step. Say which you are when you start, and change it in your profile whenever you like.

How a job works

  1. Start a job

Choose the car, say what's wrong in your own words and list the tools you have. Fixray starts from what you told it, so you don't repeat yourself.

The "What is wrong?" screen for a 2012 Honda Pilot, with the problem "Front brakes squeal when cold" and the tools on hand "Torch, gloves, rag" filled in, above the Start job button.
  2. One step at a time

Fixray gives you one step, then waits. Nothing moves on until you tap Done, say you hit a problem or ask about it.

Step 1 of the brake job, "Check the brake fluid level against the MIN and MAX marks", labelled as from the 2012 Honda Pilot Owner's Manual, page 592, above the manual's drawing of the brake fluid reservoir and the Done and I hit a problem buttons.
  3. Come back later

A job keeps its place while you fetch a part or sleep on it. With no signal, it opens from what your phone saved, so you can still read where you left off.

The brake job opened with no signal: a question about the squeal, the answer from page 539 of the manual and step 3, all still readable above the line "Offline · showing what was saved".

Before you start

Fixray gives you guidance, not instructions. You decide what to do on your vehicle, and you are responsible for the work and for your own safety. Stop and get help from a qualified mechanic if anything looks unsafe.

Hazards are marked, never hidden. Fixray guides the work; it does not refuse it.

Grounded in the car's own manual

From the manual · 2012 Honda Pilot Owner's Manual · p. 592

When Fixray holds your car's manual, each step says where it came from, and the page is one tap away. When it doesn't, the step says it is general guidance.
